Introduction of the project

Nowdays, artificial intelligence is widely used in many sectors and area. I have decided to focus this project on some potential uses of AI in develloping a more efficient agriculture.

let's look more into detail how machines and algorthms could help us eat.

Having the "harvest Croo berry picker" example in mind, a machine which autonomously is capable of picking berries for their bush, and fully replace humans, i started to investigate the potential uses of AI in agriculture.

Various uses of AI

Pest and Weed Control

Historically, farmers lived in fear of the weather conditions and parasites – not anymore. Farmers are now adopting new high-tech ways of protecting plants against weeds and various kinds of pests outdoors. Another alternative is to grow in greenhouses, which is being done as well, but some of the most amazing farming technology is being deployed outside. Here is the example of a project which may change the future of agriculture.

Blue River’s See & Spray Technology

This project, implemented in the US, has as an objective to be able to track on a real time basis the state of each plant. It uses AI to constantly track and record the condtion of each plant, from the seed state to the harvesting, and allows farmers to implement the appropriate measures depending on what the AI says. The long term aim of this project is being able to apply the right amount of pesticide, water, sun and fertilizer to each plant to have an optimal output. The Farmer’s Alexa

Another interesting and more exentric project, is the farmer's alexa's project. Its aim is to assist farmers in their daily decision making by providing them with an AI to speak with. This project is very similar to Amazon's Alexa. In other words, its aim is to provide a machine which would provide farmers with all the neccessary ansers they might need. It would not cost much to farmers, as all the necessary material needed would be an Alexa machine, and having it reporgrammed for the purposes of Farmer's Alexa.

Eye in the Sky

The Eye in the Sky project consits in lauching drones in the sky, to get more reliable data on the atmoshpere and winds, but also to get data on pest, crop state, etc. This would enable farmers to get precise information on their crops and on weather conditions related precisely to their fields. With such a tool, there is no doubt that farmers would be more efficient in their job, and would increase their output.

Consclusion

As we have seen, the future of agriculture most likely lies in AI. AI allows a more efficient crop harvesting, as well as maintance. Addtionaly, with the increase of data on weather conditions, consumer demand etc, it would be a real pity not to devellop AI in agriculture, as it has the potential to revolucionize this indutry and make it more efficient.
